Tennis superstar Roger Federer will take part in the French Open in Paris (May 30th to June 13th) this year. The Swiss announced on Sunday on Twitter. Federer also wants to compete at the ATP tournament in Geneva (May 16-22).
“I’m happy to announce that I’ll be playing in Geneva and Paris,” the 20-time Grand Slam winner wrote on Twitter: “Until then, I’ll use my time to train.”
Last year, Federer skipped the clay court tournament in Roland Garros after a knee operation and only made his comeback at the beginning of March after a 13-month tournament break in Doha / Qatar. After being out in the quarterfinals, he decided not to play any further and retired to training.
Federer will hit sand before the start in Geneva at the Masters in Madrid (May 2 to 9) – it is not Federer’s favorite surface. In his Grand Slam triumphs, he could only win once at the French Open (2009), compared to eight wins at Wimbledon, six at the Australian Open and five at the US Open. He celebrated his last victory on the slow surface in 2015 in Istanbul.
