Coco Gauff explains the story behind her unique signature
Coco Gauff is not having her best moment on tour after inconsistent results on the US Open Series that saw her drop several places in the world rankings to No. 6, as she was unable to defend any of her three titles from last year, including the US Open.
As she prepares for the Asian Swing, where she will try to regain ground among the top players, Coco Gauff explained in a brief interview why her signature stands out. The 20-year-old American was promoting the new Topps tennis trading cards, which allow fans to buy packs featuring their favorite players.
“I try to make them as easy to read as possible because when I was a kid I used to collect autographs of tennis players and I could never remember who signed what because the signatures were all crooked and fancy. So I’m sorry my signature isn’t as fancy as other players. I try to keep it as simple as possible so it’s identifiable – these are my own reflections on how I got my signature.”
Leylah Fernandez’s intensive warm-up before the game
Leylah Fernandez shared details of her pre-match warm-up exercises with her fans in an Instagram video. The world number 28 exited the US Open early, as she was surprised by Russian Anastasia Potapova in the first round. Fernandez has taken a few weeks off from competition to prepare for the final part of the season. Her next outing is the China Open, which begins on September 23.
The Canadian continues her training and remains active on social media. Recently, she showed a typical warm-up routine that includes muscle exercises with elastic bands, stretches, explosion and reaction drills, among others. “Warming up is not something to be taken lightly! I usually warm up for up to a whole hour before I even step on the tennis court 🙈🎾”
Alycia Parks talks about her fashion choices
Alycia Parks took part in a photo shoot for the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) and talked about her appearance on the tennis court: “If you look good, you play well. I like to get my hair done, change colors, make a statement because I want to stand out and not get lost in the crowd,” she said.
When asked how she would define her style, Alycia Parks replied, “I think my personal style is loud and sweet and bold. I had a skirt and jacket on, like a two-piece, and I was so scared to wear it. Then when I went out, everyone liked it. So that was a very new thing for me.”
The world number 116 returns to action in a week at the China Open, where she must get through qualifying to reach the main draw. Her last appearance was at the Thailand Open, where she lost in the first round to Laura Siegemund.
