Federcanoa, clash between former champions: Buonfiglio tries again

Federations voting: so far there have been no big surprises, apart from rugby: now it starts again with the federal assemblies. On Saturday 12 October, at the Foro Italico, it’s the turn of Fick (Italian Canoe Kayak Federation): there are even four candidates. The outgoing president, Luciano Buonfiglio, who is also a member of the Coni council, presents himself again. Buonfiglio, born in 50, a former athlete (36 appearances for the national team) has been in office since 2005. He formed an alliance with Antonio Rossi, a great canoeing champion (3 gold medals at the Olympics) and who had been his rival in the past among appeals and elections. Buonfiglio, having exceeded three mandates, must obtain two thirds of the votes. He can do it even if his main opponent, Ottavio Gueli, is fierce and can count on the support of Beniamino Bonomi, 4 Olympic medals. Daniele Scarpa, former champion (gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games), and Andrea Argiolas are also candidates. There are even 19 candidates for the federal council. It will be a long election day.

Italy-Belgium, a “Quiet Room” at the Olimpico for children with autism

For the first time in the history of the national team, young fans with disabilities will be able to watch the match in a protected and welcoming environment. During the Nations League matches against Belgium and Israel, the audio-description service for blind fans will also be active. A new important step forward in the sustainability strategy adopted by the FIGC. Thanks to the support of Sport and Health, for the first time in the history of the national team – on the occasion of the UEFA Nations League match between Italy and Belgium scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 10 October, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome – some children will be offered the opportunity with autism to watch the match from a dedicated ‘Quiet Room’ in the Monte Mario Stand.

A protected and welcoming environment – already used on the occasion of the last Italian Cup final as well as for concerts and other events such as the European Athletics Championships – in which the young fans, protagonists of the FIGC Youth and School Sector project ‘Calcio Integrato ‘, they will be able to follow the match in total safety, enjoying an exciting experience as will their teammates and the 3,000 children from the football schools of Rome and Lazio. Just as they play together on the same field, sharing the passion for football, in the same way they can all be together at the stadium. The goal is to create an environment where every child, with different abilities, can participate and feel part of the same great movement, both on the field and in the stands. Furthermore, in continuity with what happened in the last matches played in Italy by the national team, also on the occasion of the next Nations League matches against Belgium (10 October, Stadio Olimpico in Rome) and Israel (14 October, Stadio ‘Friuli’ in Udine) it will be the audio-description service is active for blind fans. For each of the two matches, the FIGC has invited around twenty blind spectators with their respective companions, who will be able to follow the Azzurri thanks to a dedicated commentary accessible from their smartphones.
