Mexico City. The federal government plans a comprehensive program for Acapulco, with an investment of 8 billion pesos in the coming years, which will be added to the 10 billion pesos that have been allocated in a month and a half to address the emergency caused by the hurricanes. Otis and John in Acapulco, reported President Claudia Sheinbam Pardo.
After the evaluation meeting that he led yesterday on the reconstruction of Acapulco, he indicated that he agreed with the businessmen – among them, Carlos Slim and Francisco Cervantes, leader of the Business Coordinating Council – to work on a public and private investment program that will allow “recovering the Acapulco from years ago and also security.”
He said that the representatives of the private initiative “were very enthusiastic” and agreed to work on it for the rest of the year to be able to present it in January.
In a press conference, the president pointed out that the support allocated for infrastructure, to date, is almost 10 billion pesos in a month and a half, and questioned that there is no recognition of the government work being carried out.
“It is a very important resource, families were supported, the drinking water system was restored, rivers are being cleared, and now we are carrying out a comprehensive program for Acapulco, in particular, with an investment in the coming years of around 8 one billion pesos.”
With this, he specified, “we are going to improve the drinking water service, raise the pumping plants so that it does not happen again, in the face of a flood, which once again ruined all the pumps and roads.”
He also indicated that “bridges throughout the state that were damaged by Hurricane John are being improved and in particular, for Acapulco, there is a comprehensive program, together with Fonatur,” but tourism is already arriving, he highlighted, at the port.
The president highlighted that the support of private initiative is required to build the port. “There is already a lot of progress in the reconstruction of hotels, but even more is required. And we need private investment in many spaces in Acapulco.”
He indicated that the work team for the urban development program for Acapulco, by the government, is made up of the secretary and undersecretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez and Sebastián Ramirez, respectively; the head of Economy, Marcelo Ebrad, and Lyndia Quiroz, from Fonatur.
