Federation of Medical Specialists: Vaccines are Safe for Pregnant Women | NOW

Pregnant women can safely get vaccinated against corona. This is stated in a new advice drawn up by the COVID-19 & Pregnancy working group, the Federation of Medical Specialists (FMS) reports.

For safety reasons, it was previously recommended to only vaccinate vulnerable pregnant women with underlying serious conditions. “We now know that 90,000 pregnant women in the United States have now been vaccinated with one of the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) without significant side effects. mRNA vaccine, ”the FMS reports.

According to the FMS, the Health Council also sees no objections to vaccination in breastfeeding women, because it is plausible that the vaccines will not end up in breast milk.

The new position of the working group has been drawn up by representatives from the Dutch Association for Obstetrics & Gynecology (NVOG), Royal Dutch Organization of Obstetrics (KNOV), Dutch Association for Pediatric Medicine (NVK), Dutch Association for Medical Microbiology (NVMM), Patient Federation Netherlands , the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the Association for Hygiene & Infection Prevention in Healthcare (VHIG).

On Thursday, the Superior Health Council of Belgium already recommended that all pregnant women be vaccinated as a matter of priority against Covid-19. In the United Kingdom, pregnant women have also received the green light for vaccination.
