[이코노미스트 김채영 기자] It has been confirmed that the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) sent an official letter to the four major groups (Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motors, and LG) requesting to join the Korea Economic Association (Korea Economic Cooperation), which will be newly launched following organizational innovation.

According to the business world on the 19th, the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) sent an official letter titled ‘A letter requesting participation in the Korea Economic Association’ to major affiliates of the four major groups in the name of the FKI Management Committee. It is known that the four major groups are planning to officially discuss whether to accept it at the board of directors of each affiliate, which will be held sequentially from next week.

The FKI Management Committee is a decision-making body created by the FKI in 2017 centered on the chairman and company, and consists of about 10 companies including Lotte, Hanwha, GS, Hanjin, Doosan, Kolon, Poongsan, and Samyang.

The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) announced an organizational innovation plan in May, changing its name to the Hankyunghyup, which was the name when it was first launched in 1961, and formalizing a plan to absorb and integrate its affiliated research institute, the Korea Economic Research Institute (Hankyungyeon). The Federation of Korean Industries plans to hold a general meeting at the end of next month to deal with issues such as the integration of Korea Economic Research Institute.

The four major groups withdrew from the Federation of Korean Industries in the wake of the Park Geun-hye administration’s manipulation of state affairs, but maintain their qualifications as members of the Hankyungyeon. Some are discussing the possibility of returning to the Federation of Korean Industries in the wake of future renovation work. There are also observations that the four major groups will return sequentially depending on their circumstances.
