More than a hundred libraries associated with the Federación de Librarías de Galicia will be offered up to 10% discount for buying books written in Galician on May 16 and 17, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Galician Letters. The Federation thus intends to promote reading in Galician at all ages.
“While the Galician literary and publishing sector has come to show its qualities and interest, with the publication of highly acclaimed works in the past 2022, the truth is that the numbers of readers in the Galician language are still low”highlights the Federation, which points out that only 4% of the readers in Galicia choose Galician as the language of their readingas stated in the report prepared by the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain (FGEE).
However, although the figures are still low, they are better than those registered the previous year, they point out, which is why the Federation shows “optimistic”and wanting to continue fighting for “place the Galician letters where they belong among readers”.
For this reason, and taking advantage of the celebration of Día das Letras Galegas, the Galician bookstores that are part of the Federation will offer “as a vindictive gesture”a discount of up to 10% in books written in Galicianfrom which readers can benefit on May 16 and 17.
They also point out that many associated bookstores will also organize other activities related to this celebration that can be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of Libraries of Galicia.
