“Federation Cup Athletics: India Prepares for Asian Championships Amidst Absence of Top Players”

: How much of India’s momentum in the Asian Athletics Championships, which are just two months away. It will be outlined in the next four days. The 26th Federation Cup Athletics, scheduled as a qualifying meet for the Asian Championships, will begin today at the Birsa Munda Stadium. The meet is until 18:00. Those who qualify here can participate in the Asian Athletic Meet.

Absence of many leading players has brightened the meet. The reason is that the meet came at the wrong time. Olympian Neeraj Chopra, S. Sreesankar, Eldos Paul, Praveen Chitravel, Avinash Sable, Dyuti Chand, Annu Rani, Jeswin Aldrin etc. may not attend the meet. Sreesankar and Neeraj said they will not attend the meet. Most of the players including Neeraj, Sreesankar and Avinash Sable are training abroad. The meet, which was earlier scheduled to be held in June, was shifted to May on the demand of the Asian Athletic Association and the Olympic Council of Asia. The players got the change notification last month too. At this time all the top players were training abroad. None of them are ready to stop it. To top it all off, there is the issue of travel. Triple jump newcomer Shaili Singh is participating in a tournament abroad. Upputty suffered an injury that pulled Eldos.
