Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research
Bern, November 8, 2021 – On November 9, 2021, Federal President Guy Parmelin, as Head of the Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research, will take part in the annual meeting of EFTA and EU economics and finance ministers (Joint Ecofin).
In their annual debate, the EFTA and the EU deal with current economic policy issues. In addition to Switzerland, the EFTA also includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. This year the focus is on developments since the Covid 19 pandemic and the economic recovery. The EFTA states and the EU have close economic and political ties. These give cause for a regular exchange about current challenges and common solutions.
Federal President Guy Parmelin will address the economic situation in Switzerland and present the economic transition strategy. The Federal Council is aiming for normalization by supporting the recovery with tried and tested instruments and at the same time strengthening the economy in the long term. Other topics include the importance of international cooperation and open markets, the current supply bottlenecks, bilateral relations between Switzerland and the EU and the need for a sustainable financial policy in order to be prepared for future challenges.
Doorstep
Before the start of the ECOFIN meeting and afterwards (8 am and 10 am) there will be a “doorstep” for the media.
