Strategic games prevail in negotiations. Worse, “no president would now accept another to cross the finish line as a winner” with a government agreement.

Okay, we’ll explain. At least we try.
First, for five months, to give a government to this country after the elections of May 26, 2019, Didier Reynders and Johan Vande Lanotte tried to marry PS and N-VA. But the French-speaking socialists have repeated no, not possible, never.
Then, for a month, Paul Magnette (PS) pushed the Vivaldi coalition. But CD&V and, to a lesser extent, Open VLD said, no, never, not possible without a parliamentary majority on the Flemish side.
Then for a month and a half, Georges-Louis Bouchez (MR) and Joachim Coens (CD&V) left the center-right (their parties) to find allies. But all said no, not possible.
So Koen Geens (CD&V) hit the track for two good weeks, re-testing PS and N-VA. And the PS repeated no, not possible, never.
