Federal Minister Robert Habeck Calls for Relief from Supply Chain Act Reporting Burden

BFederal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck wants to relieve companies of the burden of implementing the Supply Chain Act. The Green politician suggests suspending reporting obligations under the national supply chain law as quickly as possible so that companies then only have to report in accordance with European law. The reason for this are EU plans that would mean double reporting obligations for companies. A supply chain law is also currently being worked on at the EU level, and a new directive on the reporting obligations of European companies in the area of sustainability is also pending implementation.

Habeck praised the European plans. It is correct that there is a level playing field for all European companies and that not only German companies are subject to such obligations. “But under no circumstances should there be double reporting obligations.” Companies cannot be expected to make unnecessary changes. The federal government is working on good solutions to suspend the reporting obligations under the national supply chain law as quickly as possible so that companies only have to report in accordance with European law. “Pragmatism is the top priority here,” says Habeck. The responsible Federal Ministry of Labor did not want to comment on Habeck’s initiative on Sunday.
