Federal government supports daycare center construction with 682,000 euros – Herbolzheim

City of Herbolzheim and Bauverein Breisgau look forward to a grant for their joint project.

(BZ). The city of Herbolzheim and its project partners are happy: The joint lighthouse project of Bauverein Breisgau eG and the city of Herbolzheim – the new kindergarten building in Fliederweg – is being funded with 682,000 euros from the federal government’s “childcare financing” program. This good news came from the Freiburg regional council on Tuesday.

The city of Herbolzheim emphasized in a press release the following day that this not only made things easier for Bauverein Breisgau eG, but also relieved the municipal budget. During an inspection of the new building, Mayor Thomas Gedemer and Bauverein chairman Marc Ullrich toasted the windfall with the managing director of Elztal Holzhaus GmbH, Stefan Göppert.

Almost exactly two years ago, the municipal council gave the go-ahead for a special project by commissioning Bauverein Breisgau eG: a kindergarten in ecological timber construction with additional six barrier-free apartments on the second floor and a multi-purpose room for events of all generations. From autumn on, the five-group kindergarten on Fliederweg should come to life, which offers places for children under and over three years of age.

The project means more than a mere relief of the care situation: The announced financial support from the federal investment program also affects the rent payments, which are lower due to the funding amount. This relieves the city’s budget, which is already strained by Corona, the client is Bauverein Breisgau eG. The city will rent back the kindergarten and the building from Bauverein Breisgau.

The project is also characterized by the good cooperation between the city, Bauverein and Elztal Holzhaus GmbH, which is building the 1,500 square meter new building, emphasizes the city. The project is not only characterized by structural sophistication, but above all a high ecological and economic standard. The well thought-out planning makes implementation all the easier, said Stefan Göppert, praising the preparatory work of the building association.

The project partners named regionality as another important aspect of the construction project. Not only does the wood come from the Black Forest, but also the wood fiber products for insulation come from by-products from Black Forest sawmills. In addition, 90 percent of the follow-up work would also come from the region.

Because both the municipal council and the management of the city daycare centers were involved from the start, a plan was created that takes into account the various experiences and perspectives, emphasizes the city administration. The fact that the large trees could also be preserved in the later outdoor area rounds things off.

“This project will shape the cityscape”, emphasizes Marc Ullrich. With expected total costs of almost six million euros, the pledged 682,000 euros represent a welcome grant. The Bauverein chairman also hopes that the funding program for the creation of social infrastructure will be re-launched in 2022 in order to further promote early childhood education. “We have to start with the youngest,” affirmed Mayor Thomas Gedemer. Investing in and for families is a major concern of the city anyway.
