Berlin: (hib/CHA) The federal government has presented a report on international cooperation in education, science and research for the years 2021 to 2022. It says that global challenges such as climate change, the corona pandemic or the war in Ukraine required an adjustment “in the direction of international cooperation between German scientific actors,” as stated in a briefing (20/9880) emerges. At the same time, science and research offer opportunities to overcome global challenges.
With regard to international cooperation with China, the Federal Government writes that the People’s Republic is both an important partner and a “systemic rival” of the Federal Republic. The Federal Republic is therefore taking measures in cooperation with China to minimize the risk of harmful use of research results.
Germany is also committed to offering Ukrainian schoolchildren, students and researchers the best possible educational and career prospects.
Overall, the federal government’s resources for promoting international cooperation have increased continuously in recent years. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research alone provided around 1.3 billion euros for research and development programs in 2022.
