As announced, the federal government is paying around 212 of the 465 million euros in construction costs for the extension of Hamburg’s U4 underground line.

HAMBURG | The Hamburger Hochbahn recently announced that Berlin has issued a corresponding grant notification. The sum is 75 percent of the costs eligible for funding under the Municipal Transport Financing Act and the maximum achievable amount.

The underground line U4 ends so far in the east of the city at the Horner Rennbahn. From the end of 2026 onwards, 13,000 residents should be able to travel directly to the main train station in 13 minutes via the new Stoltenstraße and Horner Geest stations. The new line is 2.6 kilometers long and, in addition to the two new stations, also requires a renovation of the previous Horner Rennbahn station.
