Federal funds benefit cyclists – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

District receives financial support for new cycle paths on several district roads / municipalities also benefit.

(BZ). Since the beginning of this year, municipalities have been able to use the state to register bicycle traffic measures in the new federal city and state program to finance cycling infrastructure, as indicated in a current press release by the Baden-Wrttemberg Ministry of Transport. In total, the federal government made around 657 million euros available by 2023, with Baden-Wrttemberg accounting for around 70 million euros. Baden-Wrttemberg is the first state in Germany to have already fully allocated the money to specific projects.

According to the announcement, money is also flowing to the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald: for new cycle paths on the K 4923 between Oberrotweil and Bischoffingen (investment costs: 681 600 euros; financial aid applied for: 545 280 euros), on the K 4937 between Biengen and Mengen (526 200 Euro / 420 960 Euro), on the K 4944 between Kalisiedlung and Buggingen (841 200 Euro / 672 960 Euro); for a new footpath and cycle path at K 4979 and K 9861 between Merdingen and Waltershofen (493 200 euros / 369 900 euros). Municipalities in the district also receive funding: Neuchâtel for the expansion and the associated closure of a cycle path from the sewage treatment plant to the Vogesenstrae underpass (investment costs: 106,800 euros, requested financial aid: 85,440 euros); Kirchzarten for setting up bicycle parking facilities at the train station with 20 bicycle parking spaces as lean-to brackets and 68 in collective facilities (159 200 euros / 119 400 euros) plus 13 bicycle boxes (27 950 euros / 20 963 euros). Freiburg receives money for the expansion of the cycle path on Berliner Allee (499 570 euros / 374 670 euros). The federal financial injection amounts to 75 to 80 percent of the total costs.

The municipalities included in the program are under time pressure, according to the ministry. The funds would have to be built in by the end of 2023. Numerous municipalities are currently unable to access the federal program with their projects because of the funds that have been exhausted. For them there is funding under the State Municipal Transport Financing Act. But only through a combination of federal and state programs could funding quotas of up to 90 percent be granted. The federal government has decided on a further 300 million euros for the “City and Country” program. Its “Vision Zero” included the authorization of the bike infrastructure and bike parking at interfaces to the PNV.
