“Don’t push away your responsibility” – this was the motto under which Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus presented a new campaign against child abuse on Monday. A look at the region shows how important this is. The Wildwasser Würzburg association, among others, supports girls and women who are experiencing or have experienced violence.
The number of counseling cases here has been increasing for years, last year there were almost 600 – in 2021 there were still 430. Almost 40 percent of those affected last year were minors – they had experienced sexual, physical or psychological violence.
In the case of sexual abuse, the perpetrators usually come from their own family or are people they trust, says Wildwasser.
The new nationwide campaign is intended to draw attention to this. Adults should listen to children and ask questions, said Federal Family Minister Paus. TV spots, posters and social media offers are planned. The aim is also to establish regional alliances to protect children and young people.
