Daniel Terzenbach is responsible for operational business at the Federal Employment Agency. In the interview, he talks about abuse of short-time work and a possible wave of bankruptcy in autumn.

Mr. Terzenbach, unemployment has only increased slightly recently, the number of applications for Short-time work allowance goes back significantly. Have we survived the worst on the job market?

With the first Corona impact, we actually got through comparatively well. Especially the Short-time work has helped prevent mass layoffs. But we are not through yet, even if it may feel that way in society at times. It’s summer vacation, people go on vacation, everyone wants to see something different. But the great tension in the global economy is not gone, and of course this affects us as an exporting nation particularly. We also have autumn ahead of us, where there are much greater uncertainties than in previous years.
