Alain Berset wants to become President for the second time next year. Will he make it to the elections in the December session?
For Alain Berset, the federal presidency is the greatest. Shortly after his election to the Federal Council in 2012, he was eagerly awaiting this office.
In 2018 the time had come, the Freiburg native was allowed to fly around the world for the first time as Federal President. He had his presidential year immortalized in an illustrated book.
Now he is scheduled to take on this job for the second time in December 2023. But this time the whole story is under a bad star.
Berset is counted out after a series of political blunders and faux pas: after his trip to France by private plane, which led to a deployment by the French Air Police and ended up in a police post, most newspapers think he should go.
He is slowly becoming a burden for the SP as well: the story about his lover, who blackmailed him and against whom he then set the state apparatus in motion, is unlikely to have been appreciated by the feminists in his party – and there are quite a few of them.
And now the private flying around – after the SP party leadership almost branded flying as a work of the devil for climate protection reasons.
In short: Do the comrades really want to enter the 2023 election year with Berset as Federal President?
