Sebastian Gutknecht, director of the BzKJ, welcomes the continuation of the cooperation:

“Educational specialists in the field of child and youth support are fundamentally important in giving young people and their parents orientation in digital worlds. I am very pleased that our joint event offer by the BzKJ and the Academy of Cultural Education was so well received and that the cooperation is now entering the next round.”

Orientation in the area of digital media is becoming increasingly relevant as they play an important role in children’s everyday lives at an increasingly early age. They offer space for exchange, creativity, games and entertainment. At the same time, there are risks and influences that can impair or endanger the development of adolescents. Many questions arise here: How can children and young people be supported in using online offerings in an age-appropriate and carefree manner? How do digital developments affect modern child and youth media protection? What responsibility do providers have? How can parents and professionals be supported in their educational mission?

These and other questions can be discussed with experts from the BzKJ as part of four online events under the title “Protection, Empowerment, Participation – Modern child and youth media protection for educational practice”.

About the BzKJ

The Federal Center for Child and Youth Media Protection (BzKJ) is committed to enabling children and young people to grow up well with media. In doing so, it acts on behalf of the Youth Protection Act (JuSchG). Its tasks include indexing media that is harmful to minors, continuously promoting the further development of child and youth media protection, and networking all key players in child and youth media protection. It also offers parents, professionals, children and young people guidance on how to use media as safely as possible. The independent one set up at the BzKJ “Office for the enforcement of children’s rights in digital services” (KidD) monitors compliance with structural precautionary measures (e.g. secure default settings, reporting and remedial procedures, etc.) of online platforms based in Germany in accordance with the European Digital Services Act (DSA).
