The aim was to be among the best in Europe and I succeeded. I am very happy.”

On the 21.1 km long half marathon course, Private Timo Hinterdorfer celebrates his victory in front of his home crowd. The 19-year-old soldier at the Army Sports Center improved his personal best to 01:03:05 in Vienna.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “It fills me with pride to see the success of our military athletes. With their achievements they show what can be achieved through ambition, discipline and passion. You are not only a role model for sports and the armed forces, but for all of us. I congratulate you on your achievements at the Vienna City Marathon and wish you all the best and success in your sports career!”

Mayer started her career as a soccer player and turned to running at the age of 24. The Army athlete has been a professional runner for four years. After four records and more than 20 national championship titles, the young athlete was once again named the fastest marathon woman in Austria. In December 2023, the 31-year-old not only won the Austrian record with a time of 2:26:43, but also her ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris.

The Army Sports Center has been promoting first-class Austrian sports with its ten military sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of military sports support program. Traditionally, the Federal Army provides several participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships in Austria.
