Cracks on the facade of their pavilions: this is the nightmare of the inhabitants of rue de la Barricade in Fécamp (Seine-Maritime). The cause of these? Several heavy vehicles that go to a factory every day, close to the houses. Explanations.
The rue de la Barricade seems quiet yet living in Fécamp does not lead a quiet and peaceful life according to these residents. Their misfortune would be caused by 5 or 6 trucks arriving every day at the “Le Bouquet Normand” establishment, located opposite the houses.
This truck traffic causes, according to the inhabitants, vibrations on the ground which lead to cracks on the facades of the houses.
According to residents, the problem started a few years ago. “These cracks appeared 3 or 4 years ago. It was a very small crack and it has gotten worse since the semis have been passing by“A resident complained.
He explains “that just beyond there are no cracks on the other houses, so that is precisely the problem with the trucks.“
Another resident who lives opposite the entrance to the trucks explains that “from [son] I could [lui a] signaled, does not stop and climbs onto the roof through the windows. The reliefs begin to suffer.“
When he hit the street three years ago, he says he found no cracks in its facade. Since then the trucks have passed through the rue de la Barricade.
“It’s like the house is receding. Inside, the floors have dropped several inches.”
Resident on rue de la Barricade
A neighbor makes the same observation. “At first I had a very small crack. As the trucks passed, it got bigger. We also had to put up poles because the truck hit the house and the electric wire. We had put up a barrier at the start and, since it wasn’t enough, we put up posts.”
However, he explains that “regularly, they leave. Last Monday they were still torn. The trucks go up […] and graze the house next to his.“
This same resident indicates that the trucks”stop in the middle of the road and rev the engines for I don’t know how long. It makes houses shake.“
She claims that “the trucks themselves say they are tired of coming here because these are small roads“.
According to this resident, 5 to 6 trucks arrive every day. “But there, at the time of the holidays, is the fashion show“, he despairs.
Trucks haven’t always been a problem. A few years ago they were smaller and the factory was accessed from another entrance, and not from rue de la Barricade.
Come on, “the trucks were much smaller and entered through the other entrance”, according to the local resident. ”The small trucks didn’t bother us.“
A resident explains that his pavilion has lost a lot of value. “With these cracks, my house is unsaleable. A house that is drifting or even collapsing in 20 years… I don’t know how I’m going to sell it honestly.“
He explains that there would be a solution to save his house by creating another part”to make it join. It’s a job I can’t afford…“
Another resident is desperate:If we wanted to sell, it would be worth nothing.”
“We’ve worked for the houses all our lives, so we’d like to preserve them anyway.”
Contacted by our journalists, the company does not wish to react before the scheduled meeting on site this Tuesday 13 December. However, she says she is “open to discussion”.
This meeting will be organized between local residents, the town hall (technical services and 2 district delegates) and the company. The aim is to confront the different parties to listen to the criticisms of local residents and eventually find a compromise.
Locals expect a lot. “We just want a solution so trucks stop damaging homes.”
A resident hopes the company will consider”think about solutions. It would be a first step that we could accept.“
Another resident wants to go further if no solution is found. “I expect from this meeting that the trucks will return to the other intended entrance. Later, if there is nothing, it will be a bailiff’s report.“
However, the inhabitants explain that they are not bothered by the factory. “The plant absolutely does not interfere. Works. We just want to be heard a little.“
