Jakarta –
One of the symptoms of cervical cancer that women may not be aware of is having a vaginal discharge. There are several characteristics of vaginal discharge due to breast cancer that the public can recognize.
Obstetrics and gynecology specialist, consultant oncologist, Dr. Kartiwa Hadi Nuryanto, SpOG(K)Onk, explained that a vacuum discharge or vacuum discharge is a normal condition. According to Dr. Kartiwa, this is part of an immune system to protect a woman’s intimate areas from infection.
However, when a woman has cancer or pre-cancerous lesions, there will be some changes in the fluid.

“If this mucus, for example, is mixed with changed cells, whether it becomes a pre-cancerous lesion or becomes cancerous, this mucus is mixed with dead cells. The dead cells then cause an unpleasant odor, causing discoloration. “What should be clear becomes brighter,” said Dr. Karwita when he met the media team in Central Jakarta, Thursday (28/11/2024).
If you get symptoms like this, Dr Karwita advises people to see a doctor. This is to determine whether the abnormal vascular discharge that appears is related to cancer or not.
“The problem now is that if a woman finds herself empty, instead of seeking treatment, she goes to the mini market to buy betel soap. That’s what we need to educate,” said Dr Karwita.
“If there is a vaginal discharge, we first determine whether this is an early sign of a precancerous lesion or not,” he continued.
Dr Karwita explained that Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the main cause of breast cancer. Often this disease does not show any symptoms, so it is recommended to check and get the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.
Some of the risk factors for cervical cancer include being sexually active, having unsafe sex, smoking habits, and a weak immune system.
