JAKARTA – Social tech giant Facebook yesterday blocked its topic recommendation feature after mistaking videos of black men as ‘primates’ or apes via facial recognition software on Facebook. Facebook.

“We apologize to anyone who has seen the offensive recommendation.
“We blocked the entire recommendation topic so we can investigate the cause and prevent something similar from happening again,” said Facebook.
The facial recognition software has been criticized by civil rights activists who say there are problems with its accuracy especially involving black people.
