Featured Players Fall in the 2022 PBSI National Selection

Jakarta

A number of top badminton players fell in the event 2022 National Selection. They gave up on low-ranked badminton.

Third day of National Selection PBSI 2022 brings up a lot of surprises. Some of the top badminton players failed to win the match. Not even a few of them were forced to give up by non-seeded badminton players.

In the adult mixed doubles number, Fadilah Gahara Putra/Alivia Nadifah Salma for example. The second seed from West Java was defeated by M. Raynaldi Oktavianur Rizky/Ridya Aulia Fatasya (Central Java).

They gave up after being forced to play rubber which took place on Wednesday (12/1) afternoon. Gahara/Alivia lost with a score of 21-16, 15-21, 21-23 to Raynaldi/Ridya.

“We are not free to play. As superior players, we are burdened, while opponents play more freely. Because we lost, we did not qualify for the next round,” said Fadilah Gahara in a PBSI release.

Shandy Tirani Mahesti from Central Java experienced the same thing. Playing in the cadet women’s singles number, the fourth seed surrendered to Ni Putu Wahyu Arisanti from Bali, 16-21, 15-21.

Still at the same number, Belda Azaria also experienced a bitter pill. The 11th seed from DKI Jakarta was defeated by Raden Roro Widya Aninditya (West Java), 14-21, 21-15, 15-21.

In the cadet men’s singles, Hendry Leander, who was the 14th seed from Central Java, lost to Muhammad Rizky Akbar (East Java). Hendry lost two straight games with a score of 12-21, 13-21.

“I’m happy because I was able to beat the top players. My capital was just playing more freely,” said Rizky, a player from the Surabaya Pratama club.

Previously, the first seed in the cadet women’s doubles number, Alya Ardelia/Ariella Naqiyyah also ran aground. This Jakarta deputy was tackled by Az-Zahra Putri Dania/Sherly Asti Pratiwi from West Java, 20-22, 15-21.

In the adult men’s doubles, a surprise was also presented when the Gerardo Rizqullah Hafidz/Muhammad Gibran Arfiansyah pair got stuck. The representative of DKI Jakarta, who was placed as the second seed, was surprisingly defeated by M. Fathon Dwi Saputra/Muhammad Ryansyah Rani Saputra (South Kalimantan), 19-21, 21-15, 17-21.

The same thing happened in the women’s adult doubles sector. The second seed, Shiva Nabila Putri/Vyananda Bintang Racketta (DKI Jakarta), was defeated by Dina Ainun Nissa Raharja/Joeyline William (West Java), 15-21, 14-21.

For the cadets’ men’s doubles, the third seed, Alif Fajdary/Yordan Alexander Gunawan (Banten) also lost. This Banten representative was removed by Daniel Edgar Marvino/Raymond Indra (Central Java), 14-21, 19-21.

According to PP PBSI’s Tournament and Refereeing Director Mimi Irawan, even though he is at the National Selection level, it is not easy for top players to win when competing. Surprises can happen and this becomes an interesting thing.

“Many seeded players have lost to non-seeded players. This shows that the competition in the National Selection is going to be fierce and interesting,” said Mimi.

National Selection today still held the group stage. The players compete in a round robin. A total of 297 players from 27 provinces participated in the selection which were divided into adult and cadet groups.
