The pair of directors Michal Samir and Šimon Šafránek completed a feature-length documentary about the controversial MMA fighter Karlos Vémol. The film with the eloquent title Lions eat the first: KARLOS has the ambition to reveal what Karlos Vémola is like outside the spotlight, and to bring a cinematic image of the personality who changed pop culture life in the Czech Republic.
Michal Samir started shooting with Karlos more than ten years ago in London. “It’s a film about an extreme person in an extreme time. Karlos’ life is fascinating, extreme and completely different from what we ourselves are used to. Our documentary reflects Karel not only as a thug and hero of the crowds, but also as a father, partner, tender lover of animals and at the same time as an unyielding, borderline person who often demands the impossible from those around him – to adapt to his lifestyle and pace.” Samir described for eXtra.cz.
A life full of contradictions
Vémol’s life was always full of abysmal contradictions, from childhood he lived on the edge, either the edge of the good or the bad. As a child he fought on the streets of Olomouc, after school he went to London where he made a living as a bouncer, became famous, went to prison, became famous again, sold out the O2 arena and became a celebrity.
Vémolova will not be missing in the documentary either wife of Lela Vémola (34), their two children Lili and Rocky, the famous Vémoland and also the animals that Karlos keeps at home and which he cannot allow.
