One of the biggest Christian holidays is celebrated this weekend. TO Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), here is the program of celebrations and events around the Assumption.
The anticipated Mass of the Assumption will be held at Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral on Saturday August 14, 2021, at 6 p.m. It will be followed, at 8:30 p.m., by a prayer vigil around the small Reliquary of the Veil of Mary, at Saint-Pierre church.
Three Sunday Masses in Chartres
Sunday August 15, 2021, Day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the cathedral celebrates a Gregorian mass at 9 a.m., then a solemn mass at 11 a.m., chaired by the bishop of Chartres, Mgr Philippe Christory.
At 2:15 p.m., the meeting point is given at Saint-Aignan church for the meditation of the Glorious Mysteries, then the Veil procession in the city will begin at 3:00 p.m.
The reception of the Veil, the consecration of France to Mary followed by Vespers and the Solemn Salvation of the Blessed Sacrament, is scheduled for 4:15 pm Veneration of the Veil, at 5 pm.
A new mass will be held in the cathedral at 6.30 p.m., and finally, the celebrations will close at 9 p.m. with a musical moment.
