Does the Spessart have the potential to become a biosphere region or not? This question has been investigated in recent months through a feasibility study. The results were presented to the public in Lohr on Thursday evening.
According to the Main-Spessart district office, the region meets all of the UNESCO criteria for nomination. However, there is still no clear trend visible on the part of citizens.
Overall, the study confirms that the idea of the “Spessart biosphere region” has potential. There will therefore be further discussions with and in the individual municipalities in the coming months.
A possible Spessart biosphere region would mean no new restrictions for the people who live there in the future. Rather, it is about, among other things, better inter-communal networking, expanding tourism and strengthening the marketing of regional products.
