When asked if he thinks the risk of homelessness is greater than it has ever been for many families, Bird says he thinks so.
– I don’t think it’s ever been like this, at least not since the Napoleonic wars, when people were driven out into the streets without any form of support, he says.
– I believe that the government must act and stop talking about taking short-term measures, continues Bird.
John Bird founded the Big Issue in September 1991. The purpose of the paper is to ensure a job and an income for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness. The newspaper is sold on four continents.
