The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards in Paris have been canceled due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The organizers announced this in a note. The awards show was originally scheduled for November 5 with performances by, among others, Reneé Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Kid Laroi and Jung Kook of the K-pop band BTS.
Taylor Swift was the most nominated artist (seven nominations), followed by Olivia Rodrigo and Sza (six). Maneskin, as well as Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, earned four nominations each. Organizers said the decision to cancel the evening was out of “an abundance of caution”, with the artists and those due to take part in the awards show in mind. The event will return in 2024.
