Fear of censor approval; Great response to Bharat Circus talking about casteism

Dubai: Director Sohan Seenulal said that the excellent response to the film Bharat Circus is proof that the audience has accepted the theme of the film. The movie came out yesterday.

There is a situation where it is not even possible to openly express opposing views on caste and religion. Though there is no obvious caste system here like in North India, it is seen that the casteism which lies in the mind of man is becoming clear day by day. Recently a Kunnathunad MLA complained that he was being shown caste discrimination. All of these things were on our minds while we were making the film. That’s why this issue was raised. Some people have asked whether to skip the parts that seem to cause problems and hand them over to censorship. We were all worried that the sensor might get through. Although the number of casteists in Kerala is less than in other states, the misery they cause is great. But he said it was the faith of Malayalis around the world that carried him forward.

Actor and director MA Nishad who played one of the lead characters in the film said that Bharat Circus is a film about today.

There has never been a Malayalam film that speaks so strongly about casteism. What we did was eliminate worms in one system. Kudos to the director and producer for having the courage to do it. After much discussion and voting, the film went through the censorship. There are many casteists in our system. It was possible to bring it out through this film. Binu Pappu, another lead actor said that Bharat Circus is a film which discusses caste politics and injustices in legal systems and hierarchies.

Producer Anuj Shaji said that Bharat Circus is a thriller film and the positive comments it is receiving give hope.

Actor Shine Tom Chacko, actresses Megha and Anu Nair were also present at the press conference. Muhad Vembayam who has long been a radio artist in UAE composed the film. This is his second film. He also previously wrote for the film Two Men. Produced under the banner of Best Way Entertainment, Jaffer Idukki, Sunil Sukhada, Sudhir Karamana, Prajod Kalabhavan, Aradhya Ann and Jolly Chirayat also have roles in the film.
