“Fear must change sides”: Saint-Denis’ plan to fight against the slum merchants

It will be “the fight of the mandate” for Mathieu Hanotin. This Thursday evening, the mayor (PS) of Saint-Denis presented his action plan to the city council to “change gear” in the fight against unfit housing. The potentially unworthy private stock consists of 4,391 dwellings, approximately 19% of the inhabited dwellings in the municipality. A percentage that rises to 25% in the city center. This figure has fluctuated little since 2009. For comparison, it is 15% across the Plaine Commune territory and nearly 8% on average in Seine-Saint-Denis.
