FDP: Kuhle no longer believes in coming to terms with Corona

FDP parliamentary group deputy Konstantin Kuhle

“Unfortunately, there is currently no majority in the German Bundestag for a specific model in which form the Corona response should take place,” says FDP politician Konstantin Kuhle in an interview with ZDF. This is bad news, given the injuries and restrictions on fundamental rights during the corona pandemic.

A reprocessing would be “urgently necessary,” says Kuhle. However, this must meet certain requirements:

It has to be a form of coming to terms with it, in which those who took responsibility during the corona pandemic also have to put up with critical questions.

Various models for corona processing are conceivable

The FDP has long been calling for a “Enquete Commission” to be set up by the Bundestag. The Union had also spoken out in favor of this form of reappraisal.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), on the other hand, is “most sympathetic” to the proposal for a citizens’ assembly so far. A federal-state government commission was also recently discussed in the SPD. The Greens are in favor of a combination of a citizens’ council and an “enquete commission”.

Corona measures proportionate?

AfD and BSW, on the other hand, are calling for a committee of inquiry. The AfD wants to support a corresponding BSW application in the Bundestag. At least a quarter of the 733 members of the Bundestag would have to vote for a committee of inquiry, i.e. 184. The BSW itself only has 10 members, the AfD 77 mandates.

The traffic light parties unanimously reject such an investigative committee, but cannot find a common way to deal with the Corona period.

FDP politician Konstantin Kuhle is at least very skeptical as to whether the reappraisal “will still work in this legislative period”.

There are very different opinions here in the Bundestag as to what constitutes a sensible reappraisal or a pseudo-reappraisal.
