Ice Sports Center Jungfrau | 8. May 2023
The no of the GGR-Interlaken on March 21st to the loan for the renovation of the popular sports facility on the Bödeli was not well received by the voters and especially the sports people. Now the naysayers are going on the offensive: With an urgent motion by their presidents, the FDP and SVP now want to save what can still be saved.

As a reminder: On March 21st, the Interlaken municipal council sent the 2.5 million Swiss franc loan for the overdue renovation of the Jungfrau ice sports center with 11 yes to 13 no votes from the “Eiskanal” (Jungfrau Zeitung reported). .
Those who voted no included the four (of seven) members of the FDP parliamentary group, Roger Rüegger, Michelle Trafelet, André Chevrolet and Fredi Daumüller – with Pia Boss, Paul Michel and Oliver Fuchs representing the sports clubs on the Bödeli so missed an important meeting. Marko Bozic from SVP did the same. His parliamentary group colleagues Marcel von Allmen, Andreas Roth, Daniel Schenk, Alexandra Brönnimann and Erich Häsler voted no. For the sake of completeness, here are the other no-voters: Christian Nyffeler (GLP), Josia Reichen (EDU), Dorothea Simmler (SP) and Susanne von Hintzenstern (Greens).
In the meantime, the liberals and apparently also the SVP were introspective: First, FDP parliamentary group president Oliver Fuchs submitted the motion “Feasibility and needs analysis for a sports and leisure center in the Jungfrau Region” at the end of April (the Jungfrau Zeitung reported). And secondly, FDP President Roger Rüegger and SVP President Marcel von Allmen are now “pushing” for “rapid renovation of the ice sports center for the benefit of leisure activities”.
This is what it says in the most recent media release from the FDP and: “Even in the run-up to the vote on March 21, the parliamentary group campaigned for minimal renovation. The FDP Interlaken wants to stick to this strategy and decided on how to proceed at its parliamentary group and board meeting. » The faction and the board now also support the motion of “Oli” Fuchs and it is also important for the faction that the long-term planning of all sports facilities in Interlaken is in the foreground, it is said.
Joint motion with the SVP
That is why President Rüegger is now taking action: “In a short-term joint action with the President of the SVP Interlaken, the President of the FDP Interlaken is calling on the municipal council at the next GGR meeting on Tuesday with an urgent motion to give the Great Municipal Council (GGR) a Template to be submitted with the most urgent clean-up work. The aim is to start work in 2024. The approval of all eight municipalities is also a central issue here,” according to the media release.
The FDP Interlaken endeavors to represent the interests of our athletes and will support the municipal council in the coming weeks and months so that the renovation work can begin as planned. “It is important that our young people and recreational athletes can train in a safe and modern environment,” says the party.
And further: «The board is convinced that investing in the infrastructure of sports facilities is an important step in shaping the future of Interlaken. With long-term planning and a clear prioritization of the renovation work on the ice sports center, a basis is created on which to build for the next few years.»
The FDP Interlaken calls on all “eight affected communities to support these urgent measures and to work for the future of the ice sports center”. You can count on the support of the FDP Interlaken.
