FDNY Honors Fallen Firefighter with Purple and Black Banners Outside Brooklyn Station

The FDNY put up purple and black banners outside the 226 station in Brooklyn yesterday.

Batista worked at this station for 15 years as a lifeguard and firefighter.

“Purple and black pennants were posted outside locomotive 226 in Brooklyn, where firefighter Mark Batista was assigned. He was a 15-year veteran serving as an EMT and firefighter,” they noted in a tweet.

The 15-year-old girl survived, but Batista was found dead.

It is believed that they were caught in a rip current.
