“FDA approves new pneumococcus vaccine for infants and children in Grand Rapids, Michigan”

Caracol Radio met from Grand Rapids, Michiganwhich, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the “conjugate vaccine against pneumococcus”, which covers 20 major types of pneumococcus.

The disease can be prevent in infants and children from six weeks to 17 years of age, and likewise for the prevention of otitis media in babies from six weeks to five years of age.

Some examples of infections are lung infection, sinus infection, blood infection.

Alejandro Cané, leader of Medical and Scientific Affairs of Vaccines and Antivirals of Developed Markets of Pfizertold Caracol Radio that “the vaccine comes to complete the work that has already been completed with the previous vaccines” and likewise “will deepen the public health impact on pediatrics in the region.”

With its approval in the United States, it is expected that later it will also be in Europe and America Latinain accordance with the corresponding regulatory authorizations and the epidemiology, in this case, of Colombia.
