Duty fulfilled: FCSG wins the cup 4:0 and has to return to the Sonnenstube in the next round +++ Wil hosts Winterthur, Besa against Biel
Green-white played a routine game at the Campo Sportivo in Caslano – and that in the absence of most of the experienced players. The Eastern Swiss team went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead. They didn’t let that slip away. In mid-September, Paradiso from the Promotion League awaits the Espen.
In perfect football weather and against a tranquil backdrop, the Espen mercilessly dispatched their lower-class opponents in the Swiss Cup and confidently qualified for the round of 32. On September 13, 14 or 15, the Espen will travel to the canton of Ticino again: The opponent for the Eastern Swiss team is Paradiso from the Promotion League.
FC Malcantone struggled to get into the game from the start, but occasionally managed to break through the well-organized St. Gallen defense. However, they only became really dangerous once.
The guests from Eastern Switzerland were completely different: Lukas Görtler, Moustapha Cissé and Mihailo Stevanovic combined several times in front of the Ticino goal in the first quarter of an hour. Goalie Luca Calvaruso initially kept the ball tight. But when the team was 1-0 down in the 15th minute, he looked unhappy. He did not clear Lukas Görtler’s cross from the right sufficiently, and Mihailo Stevanovic was able to slot in the rebound.

Calvaruso still has a lot to do and is caught off guard twice just before half-time. This time Lukas Görtler and Jovan Milosevic are cheered. The Ticino team’s hopes of a coup have now been dashed.
Also because the hosts have very little going on in attack. The class difference is obvious. Malcantone has little to counter the St. Gallen team.
However, they would have deserved to score a goal. They had it on their feet in the 55th minute when striker Marius Stan pushed a failed back pass from Stephan Ambrosius past the rushing Watkowiak. The ball slowly rolled towards the St. Gallen goal, but bounced off the post back into play. Bad luck for the Rossoneri!
Substitute Willem Geubbels put the final touch in the 89th minute. The man with the number 9 converted a handball penalty to make the final score 4-0. It was already his fifth goal of the season.
