In a brisk test match, the U 19s of 1. FC Magdeburg separated 2-2 from FSV Luckenwalde, and they already showed great progress.
Magdeburg The A-Juniors of 1. FC Magdeburg had to wait a long time to be allowed to play again. The corona break, which lasted over four months, was still noticeable in the previous week in the 0: 3 against Germania Halberstadt. What the aim of a first test match and another week of training, however, was shown by the Bundesliga offspring on Wednesday evening when they separated from FSV Luckenwalde with a 2: 2 (1: 1) result.
Afterwards, coach Petrik Sander was impressed by the second friendly comparison – under corona testing and special hygiene precautions. “That was a remarkable performance and a good footballing performance,” he praised. Only one thing clouded the mood of the 60-year-old: “It was annoying that we conceded two goals from two shots.”
“Tremendous effort made”
One of these targeted closings caused the early deficit after 21 minutes when Daniel Becker gave FCM keeper Felix Gräf no chance. The FCM juniors, however, did not let themselves be thrown off course and continued to follow their intensive route.
“We walked a lot, put in an enormous amount of effort, kept putting pressure on us and found ourselves in moments of change,” Sander recognized with satisfaction. The equalization immediately before the break was therefore more than deserved. The breakthrough Phil Gysbers failed in the first attempt at the FSV goalkeeper, but then enforced the 1: 1 break in the second attempt (44th).
New momentum with changes
As in the previous week, the FCM changed hard at halftime. “All the boys had to wait a long time to be able to play again. It is therefore important for us to give everyone the opportunity, ”explained Sander. However, the interchanges did not lead to a break in the game – on the contrary. The club juniors became even more game-defining after the change of sides.
Above all, goal scorer Gysbers appeared again and again offensively. In the 54th minute there should have been a penalty when the guest keeper fouled the attacker. There was no whistle, but the 17-year-old didn’t give up. Four minutes later he failed with a lift and this time got the penalty whistle when he was put back in the penalty area shortly afterwards.
Luckenwalde laughs last
Captain Tom White grabbed the leather and finished safely in the left corner. Although the hosts subsequently owned the other dangerous degrees such as by Asil Haider Ismail (73rd), Aladin Capli (76th) or Paul Radom (83rd), the only other hit fell on the other side. In Frank Rohde’s long-range shot, the half-time substitute Noah Kruth flew in the FCM goal in vain.
“From our point of view, we felt we lost at 2-2 because we had more play and better chances,” said Coach Sander. “Otherwise we can be very satisfied. We held against it, marched on the pitch and held out our running-intensive game longer than we did against Halberstadt. This shows that our intensive work is bearing fruit. “
Question mark behind Bundesliga restart
The hope that these fruits could soon be expressed in points in the junior Bundesliga has declined, however. “The opinion on the restart has changed,” said Sander. “We still belong to the group that would like to continue playing as soon as possible, but in the meantime the majority of the Bundesliga clubs – at least when it comes to a quick return to the game – have spoken out against it.”
For the time being, the FCM juniors will probably only have test games to show the earnings of the training weeks – with the exception of all-rounder Eldin Dzogovic, who is allowed to present himself internationally.
Dzogovic leads to the national team
The 17-year-old, who played as a right-back on Wednesday, was called up to the Luxembourg men’s national team. This week in international matches against Qatar, Ireland and European champion Portugal with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he defends against Ronaldo,” said Sander with a smile. “It’s a great experience for him and the reward for his meticulous work,” said the happy coach and his protégé.
