On Tuesday, February 28, the FCC women’s DFB Cup quarter-final game will take place in Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld. Kick-off against SC Freiburg’s Bundesliga women is at 6 p.m.
After the FCC women, coached by Christian Kucharz, suffered a 5-1 defeat at second division leaders RB Leipzig last Friday in Markranstädt, a special treat is now on the agenda for Tuesday with the DFB Cup quarter-finals. Of course, it won’t be a bed of roses against SC Freiburg. The first division footballers from Breisgau go into the game as highly favored and yet – who wouldn’t know – there is always the potential for a surprise in every cup game in front of their home crowd.
Christian Kucharz: “SC Freiburg, where excellent work is done in girls’ and women’s soccer and where talent is constantly being developed up to the Bundesliga, is of course the favourite. For us, this game is a bonus game, a welcome change from the league games , in which a completely different expectation and therefore also pressure weighs on the shoulders of the girls. In the run-up to the cup game, we notice the anticipation in the club and in the immediate environment of our players, we feel the appreciation and are now simply looking forward to the game.”
In terms of personnel, Christian Kucharz has to do without the long-term injured Samira Sahraoui and Nicole Woldmann (both torn cruciate ligaments) and the suspended Karla Görlitz (yellow-red). Jasmin Janning will also be absent. The young goalkeeper injured her shoulder in the game at RB Leipzig and has to take a break.
In organizational terms, Jena’s coach does not allow himself any experiments before the cup game. “I’m a big fan of not changing processes unnecessarily before the game. Processes give structure and stability. In this respect, we don’t do anything crazy beforehand and just approach it with joy and of course hope that we will have the appropriate support in the stadium as well receive.”

The way to the quarterfinals
The path of our women initially led away at Borussia Bocholt (2:1) and in the home game against SC Sand (4:2) in the upcoming DFB Cup quarter-final game against SC Freiburg.
The women from Breisgau, who are currently ranked 5th in the Flyeralarm Women’s Bundesliga, beat SG Andernach 3:2 in the second main round and needed extra time to do so. In the round of 16 at home in the Dreisam Stadium, they gave up 1-0 to Bundesliga newcomers SV Meppen, whom they also defeated in the last Bundesliga league game (3-1).
