“FCA Powertrain Poland Announces Voluntary Departure Program for Over 530 Employees Amid Engine Order Decline”

On February 20, the management board of FCA Powertrain Poland in Bielsko-Biała informed the trade union headquarters that as a result of the introduction by European Commission regulations on exhaust emissions from internal combustion engines Engine orders declinedAs a consequence, the company had to end the production of TwinAir engines and reduce the production of GSE and SDE engines.

An intention to lay off 300 employees was announced, including 290 people from production. Over 800 people work in the Bielsko-Biała plant.

On March 11, the unions reached an agreement with the board on the terms of employment cuts. First of all, it regulates conditions for two forms of voluntary departure. The first applies to people who decide to stop working at the Bielsko-Biała plant, but will take up work, for at least two years, in another company of the Stellantis Group, in Tychy or Gliwice. The second covers employees who will leave the Group and will not work for it for at least 5 years.

A severance payment of fourteen salaries

Stróżyk reported in March that employees who take advantage of the first option, will receive severance pay in the amount of 12 to 14 salaries, depending on the length of service. Those who leave Stellantis will receive severance pay depending on the seniority – from 8 to 22 and even 24 monthly salaries. The highest ones would be granted to people who have worked for 30 years or more.

The agreement included, among others: people who will reach retirement age in the next four years. Their severance pay will range from 13 to 24 months’ wages.

Ultimately, it’s up to the employer to decide who leaves. The needs of the Powertrain plant in Bielsko-Biała must be taken into account, as Wanda Stróżyk said in March.
