FC Volendam has passed up one million euros to award Micky van de Ven his top transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. The Eredivisie club from the fishing village waived part of the resale percentage, so that VfL Wolfsburg and Spurs could iron out the final wrinkles.

This is revealed by chairman Jaap Veerman of the supervisory board of the Volendam residents, it reports Noordhollands Dagblad. Van de Ven moved from Germany to England last summer for a fixed amount of forty million euros. Two years earlier, Volendam received 3.5 million from Wolfsburg for the defender. However, both clubs also agreed on a resale percentage of no less than fifteen percent.
However, the Volendam team waived one million euros in order not to get in the way of the negotiations between Wolfsburg and Tottenham. According to Veerman, Wolfsburg threatened to collapse the deal if Volendam did not compromise. The North Hollanders could use the money well and decided to agree to 12.5 percent instead of fifteen percent and therefore received five million instead of six million.

Because Van de Ven was in a player fund, two million will still go to investors. Three million remained for FC Volendam. “But that is a lot of money for this club,” Veerman emphasizes. The Volendam residents also received a training allowance of reportedly almost two million.
FC Volendam could make good use of the proceeds from Van de Ven’s transfer. The financial situation was one of the reasons for the supervisory board to dismiss the board led by chairman Jan Smit. The question remains what it means for the position of Wim Jonk and his kindred spirits.
