Ron Jans rules out a winter transfer from Mees Hilgers to Ajax. The FC Twente trainer wants to keep his team together in the hope of participating in the top of the Eredivisie for as long as possible.
Due to the departure of Daley Blind to Bayern Munich and the injury of Ahmetcan Kaplan, Ajax is looking for reinforcements in the rear. After a deal with Olympique Marseille about Leandro Balerdi fell through, the team from Amsterdam ended up with Hilgers.
Hilgers is not allowed to leave
Jans does not see Hilgers leaving. The 21-year-old central defender plays an important role in the current success of the Tukkers, who are in a surprising third place after half an Eredivisie season.
“There is no question,” said Jans about a winter transition from Hilgers. “Mees is an interesting player, but we don’t want to let players go just like that.”
Jans about transfer from Hilgers to Ajax: ‘No way now’
Earlier this winter transfer period, Twente also sold Feyenoord a ‘no’. The team from Rotterdam wanted to take over Ramiz Zerrouki, but that was also stopped by Twente.
Seedling weer fit
Jans will have midfielder Michal Sadílek again on Wednesday evening in the away match against Vitesse. The Czech was hampered by a groin injury and missed last weekend’s home game against FC Utrecht.
The match against Vitesse starts tomorrow at 6.45 pm in the Gelredome. Earlier this season, FC Twente in Enschede was much too strong for Vitesse and won 3-0.
