FC Twente defender Mees Hilgers could have become a Feyenoord player in the summer transfer window, but decided to stay in Enschede. The 22-year-old Amersfoorter said this in conversation with ESPN.
Hilgers has been linked to Feyenoord several times in recent seasons. The Stadium Club also seems to have made an attempt for the Twente man last summer. “There were some question marks, including with myself, whether I would stay. Ultimately I chose to stay and we have a very strong group as a result. The start of the season has ensured that we have grown together and we have only gotten better. I’m happy to be playing here at Twente.”
Was Feyenoord one of those clubs? “Among other things,” says Hilgers. However, a transfer to Rotterdam did not happen. “At Twente, the new staff has also ensured that I still play here.”
