FC Twente Eyes Kristian Hlynsson as Midfield Reinforcement
FC Twente is making waves in the January transfer window as they set their sights on Kristian Hlynsson, the 21-year-old Icelandic midfielder currently under contract with Ajax. According to Football International, the Tukkers are keen to bring Hlynsson to the grolsch veste to fill the void left by Youri Regeer, who recently made the move to Amsterdam.
Regeer’s transfer to Ajax, finalized earlier this month, saw the Amsterdammers pay €4.3 million to secure the young talent until mid-2029. This deal has provided FC Twente with a financial boost, as they had initially acquired Regeer from Ajax a year and a half ago for €1 million. the €3.5 million profit has given technical director Arnold Bruggink the resources to pursue Hlynsson, who is seen as a key addition to Joseph Oosting’s squad.Hlynsson, who has struggled for playing time under Ajax coach Francesco Farioli, is reportedly open to a move to Enschede. However, the financial terms of the deal remain a sticking point. “Ajax is open to a sale, but the financial conditions are a challenge for FC Twente,” VI reported.
The Icelandic midfielder is not short of suitors, with several other Eredivisie clubs also expressing interest. For FC Twente, however, securing a midfielder is the top priority this transfer window. “FC Twente wants to strengthen this transfer period with a midfielder anyway. The club is also aiming for the arrival of an extra player for the attacking flanks,in addition to the already recorded Naci Ünüvar,” the magazine concluded.
