Swiss Cup | August 20, 2023
It was a mandatory task that FC Thun had to fulfill in the first round of the Swiss Cup. Lower-class FC Frutigen from the third division won clearly 5-0 after leading by just one goal at half-time.

The cup football festival attracted 2448 visitors to Frutigen on Saturday evening with the best weather. FC Frutigen, who took part in this year’s cup thanks to their fair play, put up a good fight against the favored opponent from Thun on the home football pitch. In the duel between the Challenge League team and the third division, there were no goals in the first few minutes, FC Thun was unable to convert the superiority into something countable for a long time. Before Daniel Dos Santos scored an important goal just before the end of the first half, FC Frutigen even had a very good chance, but goalie Nino Ziswiler saved his team from falling behind against the lower league team.
Scoring second half
The goal from Dos Santos broke the spell, however, in the second half FC Thun played exciting attacking football and scored a total of four more goals. Marc Gutbub scored for Thun in the 53rd minute, later his partner Nando Toggenburger did the same. In the 75th minute, Miguel Castroman made it 4-0 shortly after coming on as a substitute, and just before the final whistle U21 player Nick Berger shone with his first competitive goal for Rot-Wyss.
perfect birthday
For Geburikind and Frutiger Erik Wyssen, the cup evening was a perfect return to his youth club: After the clear victory, the 2448 fans agreed “Happy Birthday” and he was able to celebrate with his colleagues. The evening almost got even better for the central defender: he almost scored an absolute dream goal with a side kick.

Only “Winti” had trouble
The Super League clubs get through the first round of the Swiss Cup without any problems. Only Winterthur has to be patient against Wettswil-Bonstetten.
Aldin Turkes and Samuel Ballet finally redeemed the 87th and 91st minutes for Patrick Framework’s team, who had previously struggled against the Premier League club. The afternoon was much more leisurely for Yverdon. The newly promoted Super League defeated Haute-Gruyère from the second division 9-0. Aymen Mahious scored four times for Marco Schällibaum’s team.
Lugano and Servette also achieved significant successes. The Ticino beat FC Gunzwil (2nd) 7-0, Servette even beat Meyrin 8-0. Promoted Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, who are without a win in the league after four matchdays at the bottom of the table, at least celebrated a sense of achievement in the cup. The Lausanne team won 4:0 against Grand-Saconnex (first division). City rivals Lausanne Sport showed no trouble against Vevey (first division). Rare’s Ilie (40′), Brighton Labeau (48′) and Trae Coyle scored for Ludovic Magnin’s team. And FC Zurich didn’t open a scoring, but it wasn’t necessary against Red Star from the interregional second division in Zurich’s internal duel. Ivan Santini scored once before and once after the break for FCZ to make it 2-0.
Of the Challenge League clubs, Aarau had the hardest time with his first cup task. Nuno Da Silva’s winning goal to make it 1-0 against Dietikon from the first division came in the 92nd minute.
