FC St. Pauli: Saad will be out for longer after operation | NDR.de – Sports

As of: October 22, 2024 12:17 p.m

Bundesliga promoted team FC St. Pauli will have to do without offensive player Elias Saad for a longer period of time. As the club announced on Tuesday, the 24-year-old underwent surgery on his right ankle because conservative treatment did not produce the desired result.

Saad suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle during the Bundesliga game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 at the beginning of October (0:3). The injury was preceded by a brutal foul by Mainz’s Dominik Kohr in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The exact length of time the striker, who underwent surgery in Munich on Monday, will be out of action cannot yet be predicted. However, it can be assumed that Saad will be missing from the promoted team for months.

A bitter blow for St. Pauli

This hits the people of Hamburg hard. The Tunisian international played a key role in the Kiezkicker’s sporting recovery after a botched start to the season, scoring two goals in Freiburg’s only win of the season so far (3-0). In Dortmund, the injured Saad was represented by Morgan Guilavogui, who is still waiting for his first goal in the brown and white jersey.

However, the new addition to RC Lens this season is not alone. With just five goals scored, St. Pauli has the weakest offense in the Bundesliga – Saad was only not involved in one. One of the reasons why the Kiezkickers are in 16th place in the table.
