The midfield player – like almost all St. Pauli fans – sees the World Cup in the desert state very critically. Irvine made that clear again in an interview with the “Sidney Morning Herald”.
Among other things, human rights and working conditions of foreign workers in Qatar are at stake. Irvine would want to use the World Cup to get attention: “We as players are in a unique position to push for lasting change as we work with migrant workers to improve working conditions.”
Education and action instead of boycott – that’s the plan of Irvine and his colleagues: “What we can do is apply pressure from an influential position to drive positive change and lasting change for the people who suffer from these terrible conditions.”
