FC Red Bull Salzburg – victory and defeat in the test match double

Today, Saturday, we completed two test matches as part of the spring preparation.

Victory against Steyr

The first duel of the day brought a clear 6-0 victory over the second division SK Vorwärts Steyr. The goals were scored by Patson Daka (22nd, 66th, 85th), Rasmus Kristensen (69th, 71st) and Brenden Aaronson (52nd) with his debut goal. Our Red Bulls, where Mergim Berisha and Luka Sucic also hit the bar and the rod respectively, showed a very strong performance, especially in the second half.

Lineup:

Stankovic; Kristensen, Ramalho, Wöber, Ulmer (46. Dedic); Sucic, Bernede, Junuzovic, Aaronson; Daka, Berisha

Loss against WSG Tirol

After the original opponent had to cancel SKU Amstetten due to Corona cases, WSG Tirol stepped in as a test game opponent at short notice. This duel with the Bundesliga rivals from Wattens ended 1: 3 (1: 1). Karim Adeyemi (44th) scored the goal for us, Zan Rogelj (24th) and Nikolai Frederiksen (55th, 86th) were successful for the Tyroleans.

For the extremely young Salzburg team, whose starting line-up started with an average age of only 21.4 years, it was an unfortunate defeat as a large number of scoring opportunities (including Adeyemi, Okugawa, Adamu) were not used.

Lineup:

Coronel; Vallci, Solet, Affengruber (84. Baidoo), Farkas; Kjaergaard, White (61. Okafor), Seiwald, Okugawa (46. Sesko); Adam, Adam

STATEMENTS

Jesse March:

Against Vorwärts Steyr we were very attentive and very focused from the start. Even if it was quite difficult before the break, we went into the break with a guided tour. At half-time we talked about the fact that we had to play even cleaner in the last third, which we did well. Not only did we score more goals, we also kept zero. We are very happy with this first match. The second game wasn’t bad either. We had a lot of chances in both halves. It was a good test for our young team and we can learn a lot from it.

Brenden Aaronson:

Of course I’m happy about my first goal here in Salzburg, but I got very good support from my team-mates. Overall, it was a strong first game for us, even though it took us around 20 minutes to really get into it. The second half was really good of us, we not only scored a lot of goals, but also performed a number of other dangerous actions.

Albert Vallci:

The result does not fully reflect our performance today. We should have scored three or four goals in the first half and then we conceded the first chance. That describes the game as a whole very well. Wattener were the smarter team in front of goal, while we didn’t use our chances with an extremely young team.
