FC Porto’s communications director considers it to be “financial doping”

Francisco J. Marques, communications director at FC Porto, commented on the “forgiveness” of Sporting’s debt by Novo Banco, considering it to be “financial doping” and a “robbery of the Portuguese”.
“This is absolutely unacceptable financial doping, because this completely adulterates the competition. This started more than 10 years ago, but it was always a taboo topic in Portugal, this was happening, it was perceived that there was ‘marosca’ and everyone remained silent. The Bank of Portugal and the Government remain silent, what happened is that all of us taxpayers had to pay for the survival of Novo Banco and then it went on to provide pardons worth millions to a football club, because the decision-makers are fans of Sporting. This is a terrible perversion. During the pandemic, Novo Banco refused a 2 million euro loan to FC Porto to pay salaries, in a loan that was guaranteed by the Portuguese Football Federation, it still refused, but now it is providing millions of euros in forgiveness for Sporting. In a decent country, wouldn’t these gentlemen have to provide public clarifications? FC Porto has earned much more than Sporting and does not benefit from these things. FC Porto has to fight against these benefits from clubs Lisbon, because Benfica also has them at another level. We cannot continue to sweep the rubbish under the carpet, this scandal that far exceeds 100 million euros. When Sporting was in a desperate situation, VMOC were worth, according to the banks, 1 euro, when Sporting is in a more comfortable situation, VMOC were worth cents. This is mocking us, this is stealing from the Portuguese, there is no other way to say it, and everyone is silent and Benfica’s silence in relation to this is still wonderful, we know very well what it means, it is the saint alliance in its splendor”, said the Porto official, at Porto Canal, expressing a conviction for the future.
“The worst thing about all this is that it will happen again. In two or three years, Sporting will need money again and there will be another bank that will help it”, concluded the dragons’ communications director.
