Francisco J. Marques criticized Benfica for newsletter published following Famalicão-FC Porto, pointing the finger at the refereeing team led by António Nobre, regarding the penalty that was left unmarked for Stephen Eustáquio’s handball. FC Porto’s communications director also accused the Reds of having ignored alleged errors that would have benefited Sporting.

“It is not easy to address this type of nonsense by Benfica officials, but in the end it ends up being an amalgam of things to try to turn public opinion against FC Porto. Benfica makes a statement about the supposed benefits of arbitration in favor of FC Porto. It was a victory beyond doubt in Famalicão, but it was necessary to find a way to stir things up and create a ghost. It was necessary to hide a weekend that went clearly wrong for Benfica. FC Porto’s victory in Famalicão did not was obtained through any refereeing error, it was a clear victory, by 3-0. It prompted a statement from Benfica, curiously enough, Benfica did not make a statement in the arbitration that was most damaging to the sporting truth of this championship, which was Farense-Sporting . Then, Benfica accepted those immense benefits from referee Luís Godinho, the botched expulsion of the Farense player, the pardoned expulsion of the Sporting player, and a completely false penalty at the end of the game. When was the problem with the lines that Sporting benefited from Mr. VAR Hugo Miguel, then Benfica didn’t make any announcement either. Benfica and Sporting are trying to create the idea that there are benefits for FC Porto for them to benefit from”, said Francisco J. Marques, on Porto Canal.
