FC Porto: the story of the analyst who packed corks for nine years

José Carlos Monteiro is 37 years old and is an analyst for the first team of FC Porto, working since 2020 in the analysis and observation department of the club. This Tuesday, to mark the conquest of the double, he recalled his path to reach the dragons.

«If 4 years ago, on another day of work at the Socori factory, where I was very proud to work and where I made many friends, I was told that 4 years later, I would be celebrating the conquest of the main national titles in a top world club, I swear I wouldn’t believe it”, wrote the analyst on social media.

Socori – Sociedade de Cortiças de Riomeão – allowed José Carlos Monteiro a fixed income for nine years, between 2009 and 2018. While chasing the dream of football, the current member of the staff from FC Porto spent his days packing corks.

During the day, José Carlos Monteiro bagged the corks at the factory. At night, he coached the formation levels of Lusitânia de Lourosa. That was her routine from 25 to 34 years old.

In 2018, Nuno Manta Santos recruited him to work at Feirense as an analyst. It was at that moment that he ended his nine-year connection to Socori.

José Carlos Monteiro accompanied the coach in his passages through Feirense, Marítimo and Desportivo das Aves, experiencing the crisis at the Vila das Aves club, which sent the team to the district championships.

Invited in 2020 to join the analysis department of FC Porto, José Carlos Monteiro fulfills his second season at the service of the dragons, celebrating the conquest of the League and the Portuguese Cup.

In the message shared on social media, the analyst made a point of thanking the family and the people who paved the way for the realization of his dream in football: «Mister Adolfo Teixeira, who gave me the opportunity to start training at Lusitânia de Lourosa, Mister Nuno Manta Santos who allowed me to start my career in professional football at Clube Desportivo Feirense and Carlos Pintado, because he believed in my work and gave me the opportunity to arrive at FC Porto, where I am extremely happy.”
